The Problem
Most general AI tools draw from across the entire internet and can state inaccurate information with high confidence. When students turn to open-ended chatbots to study, they risk learning incorrect facts or studying material that doesn't align with what their teacher assigned.
The Idea
Students build a dedicated study notebook in Gemini Notebook loaded strictly with teacher-provided materials—such as assigned video links, textbook photos, and PDFs. Gemini Notebook acts as a grounded personal tutor that answers questions, quizzes students one question at a time, and generates personalized study tools like flashcards, practice quizzes, mind maps, and audio overviews. Because every response links directly to source citations, students can click through to verify facts against their original class materials.
The Steps
Step 1. Open Gemini Notebook. Create a new notebook and name it for the unit, such as "Unit 4 Review."
Step 2. Add only the sources your teacher posted: paste the video link, and upload the photos and the PDF. Nothing else.
Step 3. Ask it questions. Try these prompts: "Summarize the five most important ideas." "Quiz me one question at a time. Wait for my answer." "Explain this concept more simply, with an example."
Step 4. When you're unsure about an answer, click the citation and read the original passage.
Step 5. In the Studio panel, make and use the study tools that fit you: flashcards, a quiz, an audio overview to listen to, or a mind map.
Step 6. Reuse the study tools again and again until you can score well without looking at the sources.
